We are pioneering the introduction of innovative and disruptive low-profile multiple-beam satellite communications terminals for mobile and fixed applications. These highly integrated terminal systems combine elements of new advances in microwave lens optics, phased array antenna technology, and dynamic beam pointing control systems. Our IP has applications across a wide range of market sectors including; aeronautical, land mobile, maritime, and 5G, providing broadband, multi-beam, two-way communications with dynamic tracking of geostationary and non-geostationary satellites or terrestrial nodes.

Opportunity:

Isotropic Systems is seeking an experienced Director of Program Management with a history of successful execution of complex programs through strategic planning, program prioritisation and governance, good program management practice and leadership, and continuous improvement as part of its progression into the next phase of the corporate growth strategy.

Reporting into the COO and working closely with the SVP of Engineering and Director of Product Line Management, the Director of Program Management is responsible for ensuring the company objectives are realised through excellence in execution across all areas of engagement, both internal and external. This includes internal product development cycles in relation to terminals for satellite communications, company infrastructure projects, customer engagements and external funding activities; for programs that are delivered within budget and on schedule.

As a key contributor, the Director of Program Management is a high impact, hands-on leadership role that drives major initiatives/programs to a successful conclusion. Program responsibilities include working closely with functional heads to build program roadmaps, guiding the program teams to achieve clearly defined business goals, anticipating delays whilst developing mitigation strategies and overseeing resource capacity and demand trades. They have the responsibility of partnering closely with cross functional stakeholders to ensure scope, timeline, risk mitigation, and activities for new product introduction (NPI), or business programs and their subordinate projects remain connected and coordinated and are consistently and holistically communicated across the organisation in a transparent manner. 

The Director of Program Management will also facilitate budget and planning as needed towards future strategic objectives.

Initially they will be expected to manage the activities of current project managers overseeing the transition of cutting-edge technology into products (NPI) but will be required to build a world-class program management organisation that dovetails into the overall company objectives. This includes the development of appropriate software tools, procedures and processes that self-manage the group’s activities in a formal framework.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the senior management team, key stakeholders, and functional heads through the program planning cycle to build roadmaps and program strategies that align with the corporate goals.

  • Manage multi-project dependencies across all company programs, including resource management. Work with functional heads and/or project leads to deliver results that ensure timely and robust delivery of projects.

  • Lead the cross-company integration of plans and resources for new product development or business programs. Determine resource needs for programs and work with functional heads on resource allocation to make recommendations to senior management on capacity constraint solutions, trade-offs, or projects to delay. Lead discussions on scenario planning and assessment of organisational readiness and capacity.

  • Manage project scope and deliverables through a structured change management process to ensure customer expectations are met whilst protecting corporate objectives. Manage change control through planning and communication as requirements and priorities shift.

  • Identify risk factors and escalate risks to delivery in advance. Lead cross-functional efforts to mitigate risk, develop contingency plans, or adjust project scope, resources, or time lines as needed. Negotiate with and/or influence senior management to resolve program or project level challenges.

  • Work with the finance team to capture appropriate metrics for inclusion in program business cases in order to demonstrate the expected business benefits. Ensure project business cases are high quality, complete, accurate, and timely. Facilitate project approvals before project work commences.

  • Identify project metrics and costs. Track progress and provide updates and financial insight to the management team. Act as the single point of contact responsible for program schedule, cost, risks, and scope. Assess actual performance against the project plan and make adjustments consistent with plan objectives.

  • Develop project management methodologies, standards, associated tools, deliverables, communication plans, and operational cadence necessary to ensure consistent project execution.

  • Manage and lead a team of diverse project managers across multiple sites.

  • Build a program management organisation in line with the company growth trajectory.

  • Plan and direct performance of staff members as assigned. Motivate employees, assist in goal setting, provide development opportunities and performance feedback, address complaints and resolve problems. Leverage personal expertise as well as project leadership to coach and mentor project team members as needed.

Skills and/or Experience Needed:

  • Bachelor's degree in Program/Project Management with relevant product development experience or Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field with higher Program/Project management degree or professional body certification and experience.

  • +Ten (+10) years of directly relevant experience managing multiple programs simultaneously, sometimes across multiple sites.

  • Six (6) years of product development experience, preferably for wireless communications equipment across consumer, enterprise and government markets. Experience with all phases of product development from concept to prototype to volume manufacture to market introduction.

  • Experience with EVT, DVT and PVT product development gates (or similar).

  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and experience in successfully leading projects or programs. Ability to independently manage and lead all facets of a program, from program strategy to execution and governance, with minimal supervision.

  • Effective communication and strong presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to interface and maintain effective relationships with all levels of employees in a team-oriented environment.

  • Ability to influence and direct multiple activities and work in a fast-paced environment.

  • High degree of analytical skills and experience with associated PM tools.

  • Ability to conduct problem solving without preconceived notions or bias due to incomplete data or opinions of others. Ability to probe and determine the cause of the defect while maintaining objectivity and relationships.

  • Ability to challenge content and assumptions.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project and other PM software tools.

  • Excellent communication skills - written and verbal. Fluency in written and spoken English.

  • Ability to travel on request.

Desired Attributes:

  • PMP, APM, PMI (or similar) certification.

  • Ability to communicate calmly in a well thought out response (verbal and written) including dissemination of complex data to an executive team.

  • Ability to negotiate with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation and with customers and suppliers.

  • Ability to effectively present information in team meetings and design reviews as needed.

  • A good understanding of the operation and product development expectations for products for wireless communications.
